What is dragon boat racing?

It’s wet, it’s wild, it’s an experience your team will never forget!

The world’s fastest growing water sport is also the most exciting. Dragon boat racing combines Chinese traditions, competition, team building exercises, and fun. Twenty paddlers move in unison, combining strength with teamwork in a boat with bright colors, dragon scales, a dragon head and tail. Dragon Boat Racing is a great sport for men and women of all ages and abilities. No special skills are necessary to participate. Anyone can do it and have fun!

Teamwork is everything in Dragon Boat Racing

Synchronicity is more important than strength. A perfectly synchronized team will almost always beat a stronger, but less coordinated team.

Your Team

Each Dragon boat holds a maximum of 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersperson. Your team should consist of 21 people with maybe 2 or 3 alternates in case something happens to a member. An experienced steersperson will be provided for each team.  Teams entering the Acworth Dragon Boat Race and Festival must have a mixed crew with a minimum of 8 female paddlers in the boat. And for the survivor teams there must be a minimum of 14 cancer survivors in the boat.
